Uploading a podcast

Browse to the administration interface for your podcast portal. We will have sent you these details but this is generally in the form http://podcast.canstream.co.uk/YOURSTATION/admin - and from here enter your username and password.

Once successfully logged in the page of options gives three methods to upload content. These are:

  • Use browser: add content by uploading via your web browser. This is an easy no fuss method but you can only upload one file at a time.
  • Search upload folder: add content that has already been put into your upload folder. This is generally done with FTP and is often used when there are multiple files to upload
  • Get from web: add content to your podcast installation that is already online elsewhere.

The following description is using the "Use browser" method. To start click "Browse", navigate to the location of your content using the "open file" window that appears, then click "get file" to begin the upload process. You may get a warning that the process may take a few minutes--the actual speed of your upload is dependent on your internet connection and the size of the file.

Once the file has successfully uploaded, the next step is to add further options and to describe the content:

Add a title for your Podcast and a brief description. This will be displayed on your podcast page.

You can choose to turn visitor comments on or off. These can be individually set for each podcast, some may have them turned on, others may not. The default is for them to be turned off. In addition to text comments you can also enable audio comments and specify a maximum size allowed.

To add further relevant detail to your podcast you may wish to suggest additional links that your listeners may find of interest. These should be relevant to each podcast and are displayed along side it. Here you can specify link URL, link name and link description.

It is sometimes useful to upload and add information to several podcasts at the same time but only make them visible on the main page later. This is the default "Draft" setting. In order for your uploaded podcast to appear to anyone visiting your site you select "On Air". Once all you information has been added click "Save all".

If you now go back to your podcast site you will see the recently added podcast (you may need to click "Refresh" in your browser).

The page will have been built with all the information you specified such as link details and description, there will be a built-in Flash MP3 player and all RSS feeds will have been updated.
