Introduction to the Centova Cast system

The following is a brief introduction to the various sections of the Centova system now in place for new Canstream customers. Existing customers can be moved to the new system on request.

Realtime Stats

  • Listeners: The number of listeners currently connected to your stream
  • Server Status: Whether your server is off or online (should usually read "Online")
  • Source Connected: Whether your encoder is connected and streaming (should usually read "Yes")

Management

  • Overview / Dashboard: This is where you start out. It is an at-a-glance view of your current listener numbers, recent tracks (if your station sends track metadata), data transfer (if applicable) and basic information about your stream such as IP address and port number.
  • Configure Server: Most users should not need to access this section regularly. However, it does have the useful feature of customising your stream title, which is displayed in users' media players when they listen to your station. Most of the other options should be left alone unless required.
  • View Current Listeners: Shows a quick view of the current listeners connected to your stream, including country, length of time listened, and the type of player they are using to tune in to your stream.
  • View Statistics: Shows a view of historic listening patterns, including your monthly listener hours (required for reporting to PPL) and a breakdown by country, average listen time, and type of player.
  • View Logs: Enables you to view internal logs of server access and errors. Sometimes, Canstream support will need this information to diagnose problems.
  • Server Administration: Takes you to the Icecast server status page. Not usually required, except in the event of a fault.
  • Quick Links: A very useful page which shows you, at a glance, the information you need to enter into your encoder to connect and stream. There are also some links to copy-and-paste into your website for various players to connect directly to your station, and a link to view the Centova User Guide.
  • Code Snippets: A set of pieces of code for web designers to embed into a site, which will show (if available) information such as the current track being played on air.
  • Log Out: Self-explanatory. Logs you out of your account.

Server control

  • Start server: Starts your streaming server and enables you to connect.
  • Stop server: Stops your streaming server, disconnects listeners and refuses connection attempts. This should not normally be needed.
  • Restart server: Disconnects all listeners and restarts the server. Often needed when configuration changes are made.
  • Reload server: Enables configuration changes to be made without disconnecting listeners.
