Streaming with Mixxx

Thank you for using Canstream Internet Radio. The following guide will help you get up and running using the Mixxx application for Windows.

Step 1 – Download and Install Mixxx application

 

1a) Download Mixx from the website http://www.mixxx.org/ and select the relevant system e.g. 32 bit or 64 bit.

HINT: To find out what system you are operating follows these tips here.

 

1b) Run through installation and create a folder because Mixxx doesn’t do this for you. Select the features you need and save in the relevant path such as Program Files.

 

1c) Do not start using application after installation, please follow the next step.


Step 2Add MP3 extension into the file directory


2a) Download the libmp3lame.dll if you want to stream MP3.

For legal reasons Mixxx and the Lame MP3 encoder cannot be distributed together. You may download a copy of libmp3lame.dll from here. Before downloading choose relative operating system as mentioned above.


2b) When you have downloaded the zip file, open it and copy the libmp3lame.dll file and paste into your folder where you have installed Mixx.

 

 


Step 3
– Open up the Mixxx application. Then click Options and select Preferences.

 

 

 

 

Step 4 – Select ‘Sound Hardware’. We provide you advice and information of what settings you need to choose. We have selected the highlighted settings to get our test stream running.

 

 

Step 5 – Click on ‘Enable live broadcasting’ and fill out the stream details we provided you by email such as type, host, mountpoint, port, and encoding. Choose ‘source’ as username and we provide your password. ‘Stream settings’ are optional for your stream metadata.

 

 

When you have entered your streaming details click 'Ok' and you should receive this message:

 

 

 

Step 6 – Once successfully streaming you will now need to load a track onto the deck to stream some audio.


 

When you have your music loaded it should display the track information. If you have two songs loaded, the second track will be displayed on the right handside of the mixer, You will be able to mix them together using the mixer controls on the deck.

 

 


Step 7 - Create a link for your listeners

Now you are webcasting you will need to create a link on your website to enable people to connect and listen. There are many 
ways to make this link, but the simplest is to use a standard hyperlink. 

Point your "Listen Live" link to the following URL: http://example.canstream.co.uk:8000/yourmountpoint.mp3.m3u

If you have any difficulties connecting to your stream using the supplied link, please copy and paste the following url into your 
usual media player: http://serveraddress:port/your_mountpoint.mp3
